Ava DuVernay born August 24 72, at Long Beach in California. DuVernay started to discover her creative and artistic side when she was a young girl because of her Aunt Denise. The aunt she had was a nurse and was a night shift worker so she could devote her day to theatre and literature as well as art. DuVernay was exposed to the movie of 1961 West Side Story by her aunt. DuVernay's father recalled watching the historical civil rights marches over the Edmund Pettus Bridge in the nearby town Selma Alabama. Her summers in Alabama's Selma influence her later on to create a film about Martin Luther King Jr. Martin Luther King Jr. In the year 1990, DuVernay completed her studies at Saint Joseph High School in Lakewood California. After graduation she was enrolled at the University of California Los Angeles where she earned qualifications in English as well as African American studies. DuVernay started producing for the broadcast industry while she was still at college. She started as an intern at CBS News, during the O.J. Simpson trial. DuVernay was tasked to look-out and search for the house of a particular Jury member. The duties she was required to perform left her dissatisfied and, following her decision not to pursue a career in the field of journalism, she was able to move into the industry of publicity. DuVernay began working in a small studio as a Junior Publicist shortly after graduating from college. The DuVernay Agency is her first agency for public relations. Alongside PR, the agency has created lifestyle networks and advertising campaigns such as the Urban Beauty Collective.
